Old Man Goes Viral for Going Back to School at Age 75

At 75 years old, Benjamin Naoe is older than everyone else in school – even the teachers, principal, and administrators, yet this did not stop him from enrolling and attending his classes like any other student.

A freshman Political Science student at the University of Pangasinan, Lolo Benjamin has gone viral after a classmate shared his photos on his Facebook account.

According to Christian Monses, he felt so inspired by Lolo Benjamin’s determination to complete his college degree even at his age that he shared his photos on Facebook, in hopes that he would serve as inspiration to the many young people who don’t like going to school.

“Sa lahat ng kabataan na tamad mag-aral, sana gawin niyong inspiration ang mga taong kagaya ni lolo na ngayo'y ipinatuloy niya ang kanyang pag-aaral,” Christian wrote on his Facebook account.
 “Isa po ako sa mga estudyanteng na inspire ni lolo, pinatunayan nyo na hindi pa huli ang lahat upang ipagpatuloy ang pag-aaral.”

According to Christian, Lolo Benjamin found a job after high school and eventually had a family. Due to poverty, he had no money to go back to school and also juggle his finances to feed his family. But after his wife passed and his kids have all grown up, he decided it was time to fulfill his dreams.

Christian also expressed amazement that this old man is not seeking special treatment for his age. He readily goes up his third-floor classrooms to join his classmates in class. He’s so active and energetic that the climb up and down the stairs is not a problem for him.

“Ang laking bagay sa akin na nakilala ko siya,” Christian added.

Many netizens were just as impressed with Lolo Benjamin.

“Salute! May mga bata ngayon ayaw mag-aral, eto si lolo, hanggang kaya nag aaral. Grabe! God bless you lolo with many more years so that you can pursue what you’re not able to do in your younger years,” a netizen commented.
